Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) was born in Heraklion, Crete. He studied law in Athens and did his postgraduate studies in Paris, where he was deeply influenced by the philosophical principles of Bergson and Nietzsche. In 1956 he was awarded the International Peace Prize in Vienna and was a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Having written (1938) the Odyssey, a grandiose work with 24 rhapsodies and 33,333 verses. He distinguished himself in Dramaturgy (Prometheus, Kapodistrias, Kouros, Nikiforos Fokas, etc.) He became better known for his novels: The Life and State of Alexis Zorba (1946), Christ is Crucified Again (1948), Captain Michael (1950), The Last Temptation (1951). His work has been translated and published in more than 50 countries.
